Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Sets New Benchmark In Midsize SUV Segment: Hits 2 Lakh Sales Milestone
Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara, launched on September 26, 2022, achieved a significant milestone by selling over 2 lakh units within just 22 months. By the end of June2024, it had sold 199,550 units. The remaining 450 units needed to reach the 2,00,000 mark were likely sold in early July 2024. This achievement makes the Grand Vitara the fastest midsize SUV to hit this figure, surpassing Hyundai Creta's record of reaching it in 25 months.
Earlier, we had reported that the Maruti Grand Vitara had reached 1 lakh sales in just one year, setting a record as the fastest midsize SUV to do so. Since then, sales have accelerated, with the next 1 lakh units sold in just ten months. This rapid pace highlights the growing popularity of the Grand Vitara among consumers.

Despite entering a fiercely competitive midsize SUV market with established rivals like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and Toyota Hyryder, the Maruti Grand Vitara has made a significant impact. In FY2024, its first full year of sales, it was the second best-selling midsize SUV with 1,21,169 units sold (up by 136 percent), following Hyundai Creta's 1,62,773 units (up by 8.2 percent).
In the April-June quarter of FY2025 alone, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,63,130 utility vehicles (SUVs and MPVs), capturing a substantial market share of 25 percent. This performance outpaced Mahindra (1,24,248 units/19 percent market share), Hyundai (1,00,745 units/15.6 percent market share), and Tata (1,00,526 units/15.5 percent market share). The Grand Vitara contributed significantly with sales of 27,066 units during this period.

The Grand Vitara has also been instrumental in boosting Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa channel sales. By June end of FY2024, Maruti had sold a total of 27,11,895 Nexa cars and SUVs. Out of these sales figures, the Grand Vitara accounted for an impressive 1,99,550 units or about 7.35 percent. It currently ranks third after long-established models like Baleno and Ignis.
Since its market entry in FY2023 until June end of FY2024 alone, Nexa has sold a total of 10,56,038 cars and SUVs. The Grand Vitara's contribution stands strong at around 19 percent of these sales figures.

The success story of Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara underscores its growing footprint in India's midsize SUV segment. Its rapid sales growth not only highlights consumer preference but also strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s position in a highly competitive market.
