Maruti Suzuki EWX: A Bold Leap Into Electrification
Suzuki has made a bold move towards electrification with the filing of a patent in India for its eWX concept, initially showcased at the Bangkok International Motor Show and later at the Japan Mobility Show.
This step marks a significant shift for Maruti Suzuki, a company known for its cautious approach towards adopting new technologies. Despite its previous hesitancy, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the eVX electric SUV concept at Auto Expo 2023, signalling a new direction in its journey towards EVs.

The eWX, classified as an EV mini-wagon by Suzuki, diverges from traditional designs with its electric hatchback form. It stands out with its tall pillars and flat roofline, giving it an SUV-like stance.
The vehicle's design eschews conventional headlamps for an LED strip on the front fascia and vertical LED DRLs on the bumper, alongside a windshield that extends into the roof, enhancing its unique appearance.
With dimensions of 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, the eWX's design is further complemented by black claddings around the wheel arches. This design philosophy extends to the rear, adopting the unique lighting setup seen at the front. The vehicle's flat bonnet and door panels contribute to a streamlined profile.

Speculation surrounds the eWX as potentially being the new electric version of Maruti's WagonR, a project that was previously shelved. Although it bears little resemblance to the current petrol-powered WagonR, there's a possibility it could be launched as the 'WagonR EV’.However, official confirmation from Maruti Suzuki is pending.
The company's first foray into the EV market will be with the eVX, expected to debut in India in the first half of the next year, with the eWX possibly following towards the end of 2025 or early 2026.

DriveSpark Thinks
The eWX aims to compete with other electric vehicles in the market such as the Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, and MG Comet EV. With Suzuki claiming a range of 230km on a single charge for the eWX, it represents a significant step for Maruti Suzuki in India.
