Maruti Suzuki Prepares For eVX Launch With Extensive Charging Network Across India

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for a significant push into the electric vehicle (EV) market. Before launching its first EV, the eVX SUV, the company plans to set up about 25,000 charging stations at Nexa dealerships. This move underscores Maruti Suzuki's dedication to swiftly advancing electric car sales by ensuring a robust charging infrastructure across 5,100 service points in 2,300 cities.

The eVX's design has been slightly modified from its concept version. It features a unique LED light bar at the rear, a high-mounted stop lamp, and a shark-fin antenna, adding to its sleek appearance. The exterior includes a sloping air vent section, suggesting a strong and stylish design. The vehicle is expected to have 17-inch alloy wheels, enhancing its premium look.

Charging Network

Maruti Suzuki's decision to establish an extensive network of charging stations before releasing the eVX addresses a major challenge for EV adoption: accessible charging options. This infrastructure development at Nexa dealerships signals the company's strategic move to strengthen its electric vehicle ecosystem. The initiative reflects Maruti Suzuki's enthusiasm for promoting electric vehicle sales.

The eVX is anticipated to offer various performance options, likely including single and dual electric motor setups available in markets like Europe and Japan. It is rumoured to be powered by a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with ranges reaching up to 500 km. This design aims to make it stand out in the competitive EV market.

Test models of the eVX reveal a modern interior featuring a double-spoke steering wheel and a dual-screen setup, showcasing Maruti Suzuki's focus on advanced technology. With dimensions of approximately 4,300 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, the eVX is poised to compete with other electric models in India like the Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Creta.

The zero-emission eVX is set for launch between 2025 and 2026 on the 27L platform derived from Toyota’s 40PL. This collaboration highlights joint efforts in developing this electric SUV. The car might be released under a different name within the Toyota brand.
