Mahindra Zeo Electric Commercial Vehicle Launched: Comes With ADAS, BaaS, And More

Mahindra has introduced its first step into the electric commercial vehicle market with the ZEO electric 4W truck, signaling a significant expansion of its Last Mile Mobility division.

This new addition, dubbed ZEO for 'Zero Emission Option,' represents a pivotal turn towards eco-friendly transportation solutions, with Mahindra already having a diverse portfolio that includes vehicles running on petrol, CNG, diesel, and electric fuels. Notably, ZEO marks Mahindra's initial venture into electric four-wheeler (4W) trucks, setting its sights on competing with models like the Tata Ace EV.

The launch price for the base model of Mahindra ZEO starts at Rs 7.52 lakh (Ex-showroom), which is positioned as an attractive entry point for those considering electric commercial vehicles.

Mahindra has structured the ZEO in two variants, Zeo V1 and Zeo V2, both of which come with a pre-built body tagged with the suffix DV200. Additionally, Mahindra enhances the value proposition with its Battery as a Service (BaaS) program, aiming to lower operational costs for buyers.

Financial and Warranty Support

To make the ZEO more accessible, Mahindra is promoting various finance options and has set the BaaS rental rate at Rs 2.25 per km. Furthermore, buyers can feel assured with the 3-year or 1.25 lakh km vehicle warranty, alongside a 7-year or 1.5 lakh km battery warranty.

The truck features two battery options, 18.4 kWh and 21.3 kWh, offering a real-world range of 160 km and a claimed ARAI range of 246 km, respectively. Charging the ZEO is convenient, with DC fast charging adding 100 km of range in just 60 minutes, while AC fast charging and home charging options are also available.

Performance and Design Features

In terms of performance, the ZEO is powered by a single electric motor delivering 40 bhp and 114 Nm, capable of reaching speeds up to 60 km/h. Design-wise, the ZEO adheres to Mahindra's styling cues, featuring vertical slats on the grille accented in blue to emphasize its eco-friendly nature. Additional blue highlights and decals stating 'ELECTRIC' adorn the exterior, alongside dual-tone wheel covers on the steel wheels.

The cabin of the ZEO can accommodate three occupants and includes a load bed capable of supporting up to 765 kg. The vehicle's design is not just functional but also carries the Mahindra commercial vehicle lineage, with bold "Mahindra" lettering on the tailgate. Offering a blend of practicality and environmental consciousness, the ZEO is equipped with halogen headlights and a single windshield wiper for clear visibility.
