Book Now, Drive In 2026: Waiting Period Of This Indian SUV Shocks Internet
Mahindra's Thar ROXX has marked its presence in the automotive market with an unprecedented demand, illustrated by a staggering 1.76 lakh units booked within an hour earlier this month. This surge in bookings led to a celebration among enthusiasts and the company alike, despite the looming concern of an extended waiting period.
With deliveries already underway, some customers might find themselves at the end of a long queue, facing waits up to 2026 before they can get behind the wheel of their Thar ROXX. To tackle the extensive waiting list, Mahindra has initiated deliveries of the Thar ROXX, with a priority on the AX5, AX7L, and MX5 variants, predominantly in manual transmission.

Customers who have opted for these models have been given tentative delivery dates stretching from late 2024 to early 2025. Those who have chosen the 4WD Roxx with an ivory interior can expect their vehicle from early to mid-2025, highlighting the high demand and the brand's efforts to fulfill orders in a systematic manner.
Extended Waiting Periods and Customer Guidance
For those opting for the Roxx 4WD with the mocha brown interior theme or the higher variants of the Roxx 2WD with an automatic transmission, the wait is even longer. Estimates suggest a delivery timeline from mid-2025 to as late as May 2026, pushing the waiting period to up to 18 months. This prolonged wait underscores the popularity of specific configurations of the Thar ROXX and the logistical challenges faced in meeting customer demand.

Mahindra is taking proactive steps to ensure customers are kept in the loop regarding their vehicle's delivery timeline. The company is directly communicating tentative delivery dates to customers, bypassing dealers until this initial contact has been made. It's imperative for customers to relay this information to their dealers promptly, enabling the dealers to coordinate with Mahindra and ensure delivery within the stipulated time.
Failure to communicate with the dealer after receiving a timeline from Mahindra could result in the vehicle being passed on to the next customer in line, emphasizing the importance of open communication channels between customers, dealers, and the manufacturer.

Addressing the Challenge of Waiting Periods
To mitigate the lengthy waiting periods, Mahindra is ramping up the production of the Thar ROXX. By the end of November, the company aims to increase production to approximately 7,500 units monthly. This boost in production is expected to substantially reduce the wait times as more vehicles are delivered in the subsequent months, gradually easing the backlog of orders.
Comparatively, the waiting period for the 3-door Thar variants has seen a significant reduction. Initially, during its launch phase, customers had to wait over 12 months for certain variants.

hanks to increased production and accelerated delivery processes, the current wait time has been slashed to just 2-3 months for the 4×4 top-spec hard-top petrol and convertible variants, and slightly over 2 months for both the diesel hard-top and 4×2 diesel variants.T he petrol versions of the Thar 4×2 now also boast a waiting period of just over 2 months, showcasing Mahindra's commitment to improving accessibility to its popular models.
