Mahindra will finally launch the long-awaited Thar Roxx 5-door SUV tomorrow in India. When launched, the Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV is said to be positioned just below the Mahindra Scorpio-N SUV.
Platform
The upcoming Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV is much more than a stretched Mahindra Thar SUV. Under the skin, the new Thar Roxx 5-door SUV features a more advanced platform.
This new platform used in the Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV is reported to be around 40kg lighter than its predecessor. The model is also said to use more advanced high-strength steel, especially in the pillar areas.
Suspension
The upcoming Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV comes equipped with a set of double wishbone independent front suspension, whereas the rear features a multi-link suspension setup. To further improve the ride quality, the model also features 'Frequency Dependent Damping' technology.
Powertrain
The Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV is expected to come with one diesel engine and one petrol engine but with two states of tune on each engine. Additionally, both engine options can be specified with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
The diesel engine is a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit. The variant with the lower state of tune is expected to produce around 150hp and 350Nm of torque. On the other hand, higher-spec variants are expected to come with 172hp and 370Nm of torque.
The petrol engine will be a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine. The lower-spec models are expected to come with 160hp and 330Nm of torque, whereas the higher-spec models are expected to produce 175hp and 380Nm of torque.
Uprated 4WD
The Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV will feature the automaker's new 4Xplor 4WD system. This system is already used in the Mahindra Scorpio-N SUV, and comes with features such as an electronic brake locking differential and an electronic locking differential.
However, the Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV does not sport a shift-on-fly 4WD system, instead features a traditional lever, much like the Mahindra Thar 3-door SUV. That being said, Thar Roxx also features a low-ratio gearbox.
Other noticeable features include a crawl assist system, which enables to model to crawl at speeds as low as 2.5km/h. There is also an 'Intelli Turn Assist' feature, which locks the inner wheels while turning to reduce the turning radius.
Expected Features
The Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door SUV will come with features such as a fully digital instrument cluster, bigger infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree surround view camera, reclining rear seats and much more.
