Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door SUV Highlights: Exterior, Features & More

The Mahindra Thar Roxx, a 5-door SUV, is set to launch on August 15. This new model will offer three engine options and a longer feature list than the current 3-door version. The Thar Roxx has been in development for over two years and is one of the most anticipated launches of 2024.

Mahindra will reveal the prices for the Thar Roxx on Independence Day, continuing its tradition of launching vehicles on this date. Official bookings are expected to start on the same day, although some dealers have already begun accepting pre-bookings.

Engine Options and Performance

The Thar Roxx will carry over all existing engine options from the Thar 3-door. It will include a 1.5-litre diesel engine in RWD guise with a manual gearbox, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a 2.0-litre diesel engine with both manual and automatic gearboxes in 4x4 form. The 2.0-litre petrol engine could also be available in RWD configuration, similar to the regular Thar.

These engines might be tuned higher to account for the additional weight of the Thar Roxx. This ensures that despite its larger size, it retains robust performance capabilities.

Design and Styling

The Thar Roxx will feature a longer wheelbase compared to the regular Thar, making its ladder-frame chassis more akin to that of the Scorpio N's. It is expected to adopt the Scorpio N's advanced suspension setup, including frequency-dependent dampers for improved on-road behaviour.

In terms of styling, the Roxx will sport a new double-stacked six-slot grille instead of the seven-slot design seen on the 3-door Thar. The circular headlamps will continue but with LED projector lamps and new C-shaped DRLs.

Enhanced Features

The Thar Roxx will come packed with additional features not found in the regular Thar. These include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, LED projector headlamps, a 360-degree camera, push-button start, front and rear centre armrests, leatherette seat upholstery, rear AC vents, six airbags instead of two, and even a sunroof.

A digital instrument cluster measuring 10.25 inches and ADAS features are also likely to be included. Additionally, it will have rear disc brakes compared to just front disc brakes in the regular Thar.

Seating Configuration

Despite its extended wheelbase, the Thar Roxx will remain a two-row SUV with a five-seat configuration. The second row will feature a bench seat with a centre armrest instead of individual seats as seen in the regular Thar. This added length allows for ample boot space, addressing one of the limitations of the regular Thar.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx aims to combine practicality with off-roading capabilities while offering enhanced features and improved performance options. Its launch on August 15 is highly anticipated by enthusiasts and potential buyers alike.
