This Mahindra Thar Delivers 25km Mileage, Rs 5 Lakh Savings Per Year! Owner Reveals Big Secret
The Mahindra Thar continues to remain a popular choice among Indian car buyers, making it one of the best-selling SUVs in the country. Though the introduction of the 5-door Thar Roxx may hinder the sales of the 3-door version, we expect the model to do well in the market.
That being said, Mahindra Thar is also available with a petrol engine. Though not a very popular choice in India, in the capital city of the country, it is preferred by many, thanks to stringent emission regulations. However, unlike the diesel variant, the petrol variant of the Mahindra Thar is known to be quite thirsty.

To overcome this thirst for petrol, a Mahindra Thar Automatic owner in Delhi recently converted his Thar Automatic to run in CNG as well. The CNG conversion was done by using a third-part conversion kit and so far the owner has been very happy with this modification.
Though after-market CNG conversion is very popular in tier 1 and tier 2 cities in India, such conversion on an enthusiast-focused vehicle is rare. That being said, the owner of the CNG Mahindra Thar is very happy with the end result, especially with the mileage.
According to the owner of Mahindra Thar CNG, he uses his cars a lot, and his average running is 70,000km to 90,000km per year. As such, the CNG conversion of his Thar seems like a very good decision, especially considering the running costs.
When asked about the mileage of the Thar automatic, the owner claimed that he averaged around 7 to 8km/l. To put that into context, the owner had already completed 50,000km in this Thar, and the fuel bill would have cost him upward of Rs 6.7 lakhs considering a litre of petrol costs Rs 94/litre.

However, after the installation of CNG, the Thar is now capable of returning a fuel efficiency of 25km/kg of CNG. As such, the running cost for 50,000km with an average CNG price of Rs 75/kg will cost the owner just Rs 1.5 Lakhs, resulting in savings of more than Rs 5 lakhs.
