Mahindra Thar SUV Facilitates Access For Kedarnath Pilgrims
A Mahindra Thar SUV was deployed in Kedarnath to assist pilgrims during the annual Char Dham Yatra. This initiative, driven by the Uttarakhand government, aims to help elderly and physically incapable pilgrims reach the Kedarnath Temple.
The Char Dham Yatra, which began on May 10, 2024, includes sacred pilgrimage sites such as Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
Operation Details
The Indian Air Force airdropped the Mahindra Thar SUV using a Chinook helicopter in Rudraprayag, near the Kedarnath Temple base camp.
This SUV is known for its off-road capabilities, making it suitable for the challenging terrain of the pilgrimage route. Authorities plan to deploy two such SUVs to transport pilgrims who experience difficulties during the trek.
The Thar SUV was welcomed with a puja ceremony and garlanded by devotees and priests at the base camp upon its arrival. The SUV model used is a hard-top version, specifically chosen for its durability and off-road performance.
Mahindra Thar Specifications
The Mahindra Thar, a lifestyle SUV, ranges in price from ₹11.35 lakh to ₹17.60 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes with models like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha. The Thar has a 2.2-litre diesel engine that provides 130 bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque. It also features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Mahindra is set to launch a five-door version of the Thar later this year, expanding its lineup in the lifestyle SUV segment.
