Mahindra Thar 5-Door To Get 1.5L Turbo Diesel Engine: The Price Tag Game
The automotive landscape in India is set to welcome the new Mahindra Thar Armada (Thar 5-door variant). The Thar Armada is not just an extension of the iconic Thar family but is poised to create its niche within the midsize SUV segment.
What's Under The Bonnet?
Mahindra is set to equip the Thar Armada with a trio of engine choices, catering to a broad range of preferences. The lineup begins with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, shared with the 3-door Thar RWD. This engine delivers a notable 115bhp and 300Nm, although its tuning for the 5-door version remains under wraps.

Beyond the entry-level diesel, the Armada will also feature more potent powertrains borrowed from the Scorpio N - A 173bhp, 2.2-litre diesel, and a 200bhp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Both 4WD and 2WD configurations will be available, alongside manual and automatic transmission options.
Booking Details & Price Insights
While Mahindra has yet to officially kick off bookings for the Thar Armada, dealer sources have started accepting deposits. The booking amount varies by outlet, ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000.
As for pricing, the Thar Armada is expected to command a premium over the Scorpio N, likely starting from around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions it as a more robust alternative to models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos and sets it up against the Force Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Jimny.
DriveSpark Thinks
The inclusion of the 1.5-litre diesel engine as an entry-level option is a strategic move by Mahindra. It not only makes the Thar Armada an appealing choice for those eyeing midsize SUVs but also caters to buyers seeking a blend of off-road capability and everyday usability.
