Mahindra Thar 5-Door Spied Testing Again – Roomier & More Practical Off-Road SUV
The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door version has been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads. As the launch date nears, test mules of the SUV seem more complete and near to production form.
The latest spy shot of a Mahindra Thar 5-door test mule confirms this with well-fitted body panels and interior trim. Also, the latest spy shot hints the model may come with 5-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels.

Also, much like the outgoing Mahindra Thar SUV, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door will also come equipped with tailgate-mounted spare tyre. Though it may cause little inconvenience in tight spaces, it definitely adds to the rugged outdoorsy appeal.
Also, analysing the latest spy shot, we can see that the 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar test mule now sports a new infotainment unit. This new infotainment unit is likely to be the more advanced 8-inch unit from the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV.
That being said, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door is one of the most awaited models in the country, and we expect this model to be revealed very soon. Moreover, we expect Mahindra to launch the Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV on Independence Day.

Speaking about the Mahindra Thar 5-door, the basic design of the model is expected to be quite similar to the outgoing 3-door version of the Mahindra Thar SUV. However, we do expect the model to come with slightly more premium bits around the outside and inside to justify the premium pricing.
Along with the minor design changes, we also expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to come with more features apart from the larger infotainment unit. This is likely to include features such as LED lighting, an electric sunroof, USB-C charging ports, rear AC vents, and more.
The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV is also likely to sport the same engine options as the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV. This is because the Thar 5-door SUV uses a slightly modified version of the Scorpio N platform.
In the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV, the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine produces 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. On the other hand, the higher-spec diesel engine puts out 172.5bhp and 400Nm of peak torque.
That being said, we do not expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to come equipped with the lower-spec diesel engine that does its duty in the lower-spec variants of the Scorpio N SUV. Furthermore, we do not expect the Thar 5-door to come without the 4WD layout.
We also expect all variants of the Thar 5-door to be offered with low-ratio transfer case, and mechanically locking differentials. On top of that, the model will also be offered with both automatic and manual transmission options.
DriveSpark Thinks
We expect the Thar 5-door SUV to be at least Rs 2.5 lakh more expensive than the equivalent 3-door version of the Mahindra Thar SUV. Moreover, we expect the most expensive variant of the Thar 5-door SUV to be priced below the most expensive variant of the Scorpio N SUV.
