Mahindra Scorpio N CNG Is Here – Reduces Running Cost By Half
The Mahindra Scorpio N quickly gained market share in the Indian automobile market with its bold design and powerful engine options, which include both petrol and diesel options. Moreover, both versions are available with automatic and manual gearbox options.
That being said, the 2.2-litre diesel engine in the Mahindra Scorpio N puts out 172.5bhp and 400Nm of peak torque (370Nm in manual), whereas the petrol version's output stands at 200.3bhp and 380Nm of peak torque (370Nm in manual).
While the petrol variant of the Scorpio N SUV has phenomenal power and torque figures, the fuel efficiency of the model is not something one could easily digest. So, Scorpio N owners are seeking ways to improve fuel efficiency.
One such Mahindra Scorpio N petrol variant has opted for an aftermarket CNG kit to reduce the running cost. A detailed video of this has been uploaded to YouTube by Easy Drive on their channel.
In the video, the Mahindra Scorpio N receiving the CNG kit is relatively new with just 5,000km on the odometer. The presenter also claims that the Scorpio N in the video is being fitted with a more expensive direct injection CNG kit as the Scorpio N uses a direct fuel injection system.
The video also mentions that the installation process of the CNG kit in the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV is more complex than other vehicles as installation takes up to 2 days due to the need for custom fabrications including the creation of new mounting points for the 12kg CNG cylinder.
What's even more interesting is that the CNG kit fitting team planned to place the CNG filling nozzle beside the fuel filler to maintain practicality at gas stations while maintaining aesthetics.
Following the CNG kit installation in the Mahindra Scorpio N, the presenter showcases the calibration process which is done to optimize the performance of the CNG kit. It is also worth mentioning that the vehicle continues to rely on petrol for 20% of its fuel needs.
Despite this requirement, the benefits of opting to install the CNG kit in the Scorpio N SUV are significant. The presenter even notes that the installation of the CNG kit is likely to slash the fuel expenses for the owner by half!
