Mahindra Scorpio N Achieves 1,00,000 Sales Milestone, Fuels Record Year

The Scorpio N has been a significant contributor to Mahindra's sales figures since its launch two years ago. In FY2024 the Scorpio brand, including the Classic and the N, helped Mahindra achieve its best-ever 12-month wholesales of 4,59,877 units.

The Scorpio N reached its 1,00,000th sales milestone on February 1, 2024, just 19 months and five days after its launch. Cumulative sales for the Scorpio N are estimated to be around 1,27,000 units over two years.

Scorpio N's impressive booking numbers

Mahindra knew it had a winner when the Scorpio N received 1,00,000 bookings within 30 minutes of online bookings opening on July 1, 2022. The first 25,000 bookings were made within the first minute. At that time, Mahindra stated that these bookings translated to an ex-showroom value of approximately Rs 18,000 crore.

Scorpio siblings' sales performance

In FY2023 and FY2024 combined, the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic sold a total of 2,18,397 units. The SUV climbed four positions from No.10 in FY2023 to become India's sixth best-selling SUV in FY2024. Although the sales split for the two models is not available, it is clear that the Scorpio N has been a major sales driver.

In the first two months of FY2025 alone, the Scorpio N and Classic have sold a combined total of 28,524 units. This represents a substantial YoY increase of 50 percent (April-May 2023: 18,935 units).

Pending orders and production

The two Scorpios are currently Mahindra's highest-demand SUVs. As of May 15th for XUV3XO and May 1st for other models in Mahindra's lineup (including XUV700), there were a total of open bookings for around 2.2 lakh units across all models. The two Scorpios account for the largest number of bookings at approximately 86,000 units or about 39 percent.

Over the past two years, Mahindra has significantly increased production to meet growing demand for its SUVs. Monthly output rose by 26 percent from FY2023 to FY2024 (from 39k to 49k units).

This increased production has helped reduce backlogs for the Scorpio twins from February's figure of over one lakh units down to their current level of around 86k.

At an investor meeting on June 14th, Mahindra confirmed plans to further increase production capacity to reach up to an annual rate of roughly eight lakh units by end-2026.

In conclusion, Mahindra's Scorpio N has proven itself as a strong sales performer since its launch two years ago. With increasing demand and production ramp-up plans in place, it seems likely that this trend will continue in the coming years.
