Mahindra, a prominent name in India's automotive sector, has shown impressive growth in both car and commercial vehicle sales.
The company, which initially focused on commercial vehicles, has now become a key player in the car market. Recent data highlights Mahindra's vehicle sales performance for October.
In October, Mahindra sold 54,504 cars, marking a 25% increase compared to the 43,708 cars sold in October 2023. Over the past seven months (April-October 2024), Mahindra's car sales reached 314,714 units. This is a notable rise from the 258,622 units sold during the same period in 2023, reflecting a 22% growth.
Mahindra's commercial vehicle segment also saw varied results. In October, the company sold 9,826 three-wheelers, slightly up from 9,402 units in October last year. Over the last seven months, more than 50,000 three-wheelers were sold, compared to 48,628 units during the same timeframe in 2023.
Sales of Mahindra's commercial vehicles weighing less than two tons decreased by 9% last month. In October, they sold 3,935 units compared to 4,335 units in October of the previous year. Similarly, sales of vehicles over 3.5 tons fell by 5%, with only 984 units sold last month versus 1,031 units in October last year.
However, Mahindra's commercial vehicles weighing between two and 3.5 tons experienced significant growth. Sales increased by 17% last month with 23,893 units sold compared to just 20,349 units in October 2023. This segment has shown robust performance amidst other declining categories.
The overall sales of Mahindra's commercial vehicles under two tons have decreased by 7% over the past seven months compared to last year. Similarly, sales of vehicles over 3.5 tons have also seen a decline during this period.
Export Growth
Beyond domestic sales, Mahindra's export numbers have also improved. Last month, the company exported 3,506 vehicles internationally. This figure is double that of October 2023 exports. This indicates a positive trend not only in local markets but also in international ones.
Mahindra's journey began with manufacturing tractors for agriculture and has now expanded to selling vehicles both domestically and internationally. The company's consistent growth over the years underscores its significant presence in the automotive industry.
