Lexus Supercar Set To Unveil By 2026 | V-8-Powered And Inspired By Racing Heritage
The Lexus LFA's spiritual successor might be closer to reality than anticipated. According to Autocar, the Japanese luxury brand plans to introduce a new V-8-powered supercar by 2026. This vehicle is part of Toyota's strategy to develop street-legal cars based on race cars.
The upcoming Lexus supercar will be inspired by the GR GT3 concept, which Toyota revealed in 2022. Gazoo Racing, Toyota's motorsports division, has been testing a prototype at Belgium's Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. They aim to have it ready for competition by 2024, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. FIA homologation rules necessitate a street-legal version of all GT3 racers, suggesting the road car will be available before then.

The production version will bear Lexus branding and might be named the LFR, as per the British publication. The heavily camouflaged prototype shares a similar stance and profile with the GR GT3 concept but features a larger rear wing. Although concrete details are still months away, Autocar reports that it will have a twin-turbo V-8 engine and be relatively lightweight.
Current GT3 regulations restrict output to between 500 and 600 hp and weight to no more than 1,300 kg (2,866 pounds). The road car's powertrain will likely include hybrid assistance, pushing power towards the higher end of that range or beyond. There is also a possibility it could use a hydrogen-compatible eight-cylinder engine developed with Yamaha.
Market Positioning and Competition
When launched, this road car will compete with top sports cars like the new Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT. A significant question remains whether it can match its predecessor, the iconic LFA. Although not fully appreciated at its 2008 launch, the LFA has since become one of the most revered sports cars of this century.
The new Lexus supercar aims to blend high performance with cutting-edge technology. Its development underscores Toyota's commitment to innovation in both racing and consumer vehicles. Enthusiasts eagerly await further details on this promising addition to the luxury sports car market.
As we await more information, it's clear that Lexus is poised to make a significant impact with its next-generation supercar. The blend of advanced engineering and racing pedigree promises an exciting future for automotive enthusiasts.
