Lexus And Crafting Plastics Present Interactive Installation At Miami Art & Design Week 2024
Lexus is collaborating with Crafting Plastics, a renowned design studio, to present an interactive installation at Miami Art & Design Week 2024. This multi-sensory exhibit will be showcased in the sculpture garden of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) this December. The installation, named Liminal Cycles, draws inspiration from the Lexus LF-ZC concept car and features bioplastic materials.
The installation aims to explore Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), which allow for software-enabled personalisation and adaptability. Visitors will experience dynamic innovations in sustainable materials and reactive software, offering a glimpse into future customisable vehicle experiences. The central sculpture changes colour in response to ultraviolet radiation levels, showcasing Lexus' commitment to responsible luxury.

Four interactive sculptures will be part of the exhibit, each designed to engage viewers through sight, smell, sound, and touch. These pieces include a central sculpture that references the Lexus LF-ZC at scale. The sculptures incorporate UV-responsive materials and environmentally responsive technology to create visual, tactile, auditory, and olfactory responses.
Two satellite installations transform interior elements of the Lexus LF-ZC into sensory experiences. The steering wheel and headrest are reimagined as sculptures that respond to touch with changes in colour and sound. A third satellite piece uses wind-activated technology to reveal the Lexus logo through an optical experience.
Crafting Plastics is known for its innovative use of bioplastics in design and fashion. Founded by Vlasta Kubušová and Miroslav Král, the studio has pioneered plant-based biopolymer materials for various applications. Their material brand Nuatan® is biodegradable and made from renewable resources.
The studio's work ranges from small products like eyewear to large installations. They have collaborated with brands such as Dior and Nike. Crafting Plastics' focus on sustainability aligns with Lexus' goals for circular materials and personalisation.
