General Motors Achieves Record-Breaking Hands-Free Caravan With Super Cruise Technology
General Motors recently achieved a significant milestone by organising a hands-free caravan across the Bay Bridge, which connects San Francisco and Oakland. This event featured all 20 of their Super Cruise-enabled models, marking the largest hands-free caravan in history. The Super Cruise technology, first introduced in 2017, allows drivers to operate vehicles without using their hands on the steering wheel.
GM's Super Cruise is currently available on 20 different models, offering the broadest range of hands-free vehicles in the market. In comparison, competitors have nine or fewer models with similar capabilities. Notably, GM's system is unique as it includes hands-free towing features. The list of vehicles that participated in this historic caravan includes a variety of models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. Among them are the Buick Enclave, Cadillac CT4 and CT5, Cadillac Escalade and LYRIQ, Chevrolet Blazer EV and Equinox EV, Chevrolet Silverado and its EV variant, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Acadia, HUMMER EV SUV and Pickup, GMC Sierra and its EV version, as well as GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.
Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, GM plans to expand customer options for hands-free driving with new models like the Cadillac VISTIQ and Escalade IQ. More models are expected to be announced soon. These developments will provide even greater flexibility for customers who wish to experience hands-free driving.
It's important to note that while using Super Cruise technology, drivers should remain attentive at all times. Features such as Automatic Lane Change and Lane Change on Demand are not available when trailering. Additionally, an active Super Cruise plan or trial is required for use.
