Land Rover Defender Lineup Revamped In India For 2024: Popular Models Retained
The Land Rover Defender in India now offers 5 engine options in India. Prices for the Defender start at Rs 1.04 crore (ex-showroom). Previously, prices started from Rs 92.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
Despite the changes, the Defender remains available in its three body styles: 90, 110, and 130. The current engine options include a 2.0-litre petrol (P300), a 3.0-litre diesel (D350), de-rated 5.0-litre V8 Petrol (P425), 5.0-litre V8 petrol (P525), and the 4.4-litre V8 petrol (P635).
Land Rover Defender Variant Rejig
Previously, the Defender was offered with five other engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol, a 3.0-litre petrol, a 3.0-litre diesel, a 5.0-litre V8, and a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
This adjustment has raised the base price of the Defender as the entry-level petrol variant is no longer available in the base 90 body style.
The Land Rover Defender continues to be fully imported into India, unlike the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport which are now locally assembled. In related news, Land Rover has started delivering locally assembled Range Rover Sport units from yesterday.
The changes in engine options reflect Land Rover's strategy to focus on popular models while maintaining variety in body styles and trims for Indian customers.

The Land Rover Defender continues to be a very desirable SUV in its segment. Moreover, this SUV has become a favourite among many celebrities. This popularity among celebs is also one of the reasons for its desirability in India.
Though many celebrities have been spotted arriving at airports and fancy restaurants in the Land Rover Defender, it is primarily designed to go where there are no roads.
As such, we do not expect the slight price revision to the Land Rover Defender range to reduce its popularity among its target customers. In fact, we expect the model to be more popular around the festive season despite the price revision.
