Lamborghini Iron Lynx Competes In IMSA's Indianapolis Race With Strong Driver Line-Up
Lamborghini Iron Lynx is set to compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This event marks the penultimate round of the Michelin Endurance Cup. Romain Grosjean will join Matteo Cairoli and Andrea Caldarelli in the #63 Lamborghini SC63. The trio previously raced together at Le Mans, finishing 13th despite a cooling issue.
The Indianapolis Road Course, known as the Brickyard, is a 14-turn track spanning 2.439 miles (3.925 km). It features three major braking zones, including turn one and turn seven. These areas are crucial for overtaking and managing lapped traffic. With lap times just over 70 seconds, quick pit stops and strategy are vital for staying competitive.
The GT Daytona line-up remains unchanged with Sarah Bovy, Rahel Frey, and Michelle Gatting in the #83 Iron Dames Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. Loris Spinelli and Misha Goikhberg will be joined by Devlin DeFrancesco in the #78 Forte Racing Huracán after their recent podium finish at Virginia International Raceway.
Graham Doyle returns to the #45 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti car alongside Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal. Meanwhile, due to a scheduling conflict with another race at Monza, Maximilian Paul and Luca Engstler will drive the #19 Iron Lynx Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 this weekend.
Romain Grosjean expressed his eagerness to return to racing after missing Watkins Glen. "I’m very excited to be back in the car this weekend," he said. He also noted that IMSA offers high competition and that he knows the track well from previous experiences.
Discussing challenges at Indianapolis, Grosjean highlighted its flat nature and significant braking zones into slow corners as key difficulties. He mentioned that using kerbs effectively is essential for navigating tricky corner sequences like 7, 8, and 9.
Performance Goals
Grosjean aims to enhance car performance during this weekend's race. "The aim is to keep improving the car," he stated. He believes they are progressing well and hopes for a strong result with their vehicle at Indy.
Reflecting on their first season with the SC63, Grosjean praised its reliability as a major strength. "The reliability has been one of the biggest strengths of the car which is great," he remarked. He sees potential for future development with input from drivers and engineers.
Weekend Schedule
The event schedule includes Free Practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning, followed by qualifying rounds on Saturday afternoon. The main race will take place on Sunday from 11:40 AM to 5:40 PM Eastern Daylight Time (CET-6).
