Kindred Motorworks Reveals Electric Bronco At Monterey Car Week

Kindred Motorworks, a Bay Area company known for modernizing vintage vehicles, has introduced its much-anticipated fully electric Bronco at Hagerty’s Motorlux event during Monterey Car Week. This marks the debut of Kindred's first all-electric vehicle available for customer delivery. Preorders are now open on KindredMotorworks.com.

The new EV Bronco features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain with an 80 kWh battery that supports DC fast charging. The system, developed in-house by Kindred’s engineering team, aims to match the capabilities of the internal combustion versions. It is estimated to produce 402 horsepower and 492 lb-ft of torque, pending further testing and tuning.

The EV Bronco replaces the traditional 5.0-liter V8 engine with its advanced electric powertrain. The vehicle includes an independent front suspension and a multilink coil-spring rear suspension. Standard features include Wavetrac limited-slip differentials, rack and pinion steering with electric power assistance, four-wheel power disc brakes with regenerative braking, and an automatic electric parking brake.

Rob Howard, founder and CEO of Kindred Motorworks, expressed his excitement: "We are so proud to showcase our EV Bronco here in Monterey. Customer enthusiasm for it has been high from day one. Now, after years of in-house development, we’re getting ready to put it into production alongside our conventionally powered Broncos at our Mare Island facility."

The interior of the Kindred EV Bronco boasts numerous upgrades for comfort and convenience. The LCD gauge cluster is inspired by the original Bronco’s instrumentation. Custom leather upholstery covers the heated front seats and rear buckets, all equipped with retractable three-point seat belts. Automatic retractable steps with LED illumination make entry easier.

A premium audio system with subwoofer is controlled via a touchscreen media center supporting backup camera functionality, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Comprehensive sound deadening ensures excellent audio quality while a Magsafe wireless charging dock keeps smartphones powered up.

Modern Features

The EV Bronco comes in 11 colours with either light cream or black accents based on the primary paint choice. Interior floors and wheel wells feature a colour-matched spray texture. A bikini top is standard; an optional hardtop with a locking liftgate is also available. Removable doors and a soft-open tailgate add to its versatility.

Additional features include full LED lighting, keyless entry, power windows and locks, heating, defrosting, air conditioning, dual cupholders, removable carpeting, and a wood bed floor with a modular cargo tie-down system behind the seats.

Rob Howard highlighted the significance of this launch: "The future of Kindred Motorworks is modernized, fully electric vintage vehicles. The Kindred EV Bronco ushers in this new era by delivering an incredibly user-friendly, zero-emissions experience wrapped in a timeless, iconic design. This is a thrilling moment, and there are many more to come."

Future Models

The introduction of the EV Bronco aligns with Kindred Motorworks' future plans to produce only electric vehicles moving forward. Upcoming models include the Kindred EV VW Bus and Kindred EV Chevy 3100 pickup.

Kindred Motorworks operates out of Mare Island, CA under Rob Howard's leadership along with experts in supply chain management, technology, and automotive fields.
