Kia UK Hits Milestone With 1.5 Millionth Car Sale Featuring Electric EV6

In a significant milestone for the automotive industry, Kia has announced the sale of its 1.5 millionth car in the UK, a fully electric EV6 'GT-Line S' in Yacht Blue. This landmark sale occurred at 9:35 am on Tuesday, 16 April, at Norton Way GWR Kia in Brentford, London. This achievement marks a notable shift in consumer preferences towards eco-friendly vehicles, with the EV6 showcasing a fully electric powertrain and innovative design. The sale underscores Kia's robust performance in the UK market, particularly in April, which saw the brand achieve its best-ever sales month.

Since its UK debut 33 years ago with the Pride model, Kia has shown remarkable growth. The journey from the first sale to the 500,000th took 22 years, culminating in June 2013. However, the pace accelerated significantly with the one millionth Kia sold by January 2019, just six years later. Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, highlighted this rapid growth and attributed it to the concerted efforts of dealer partners and an award-winning electrified product lineup.

April was a record-setting month for Kia, with sales reaching 8,044 units and securing a market share of 6.0 per cent. This performance positioned Kia as the fourth best-selling brand year-to-date and fifth in April alone. A significant driver of this success was the brand's eco cars, which accounted for 50 per cent of April's sales (3,974 units), making Kia the third best-selling eco car brand for the month and second year-to-date.

The popularity of models such as the Sportage and Niro Compact SUVs, along with the Picanto City Car, played a crucial role in this achievement. The Sportage emerged as the sixth best-selling car in April across the UK market and holds the position of the third best-selling car year-to-date with 15,824 units sold. Additionally, April marked a record month for Sportage PHEV sales globally with 49,077 units sold.

The Niro also enjoyed consistent popularity across its electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid variants. Notably, the Niro EV ranked as the ninth best-selling electric car in April and seventh year-to-date. Meanwhile, the Picanto led its segment as the best-selling A-segment City Car in April with 1,148 units sold.

This surge in sales follows Kia's record-breaking first quarter, indicating a strong consumer demand for its diverse and award-winning model lineup. As Kia continues to innovate and expand its product offerings, it remains poised for further growth in the competitive automotive market.
