Kia Tasman: Top Highlights You Need To Know

Kia Tasman, the South Korean manufacturer's inaugural venture into the pickup truck segment, has been officially unveiled on a global scale. The truck is notable for its body-on-frame construction, a feature that ensures robustness and durability.

It offers two cab styles, single and double, catering to different user requirements, whether for personal use or business applications. Additionally, the Tasman is available with both petrol and diesel engines, providing options for performance and efficiency preferences.

Exterior Highlights

The Tasman stands out with its distinctive design that merges traditional pickup truck aesthetics with Kia's unique styling cues. It showcases a bold front grille featuring five vertical slats and vertically aligned headlights that are slightly recessed towards the edges.

The vehicle also boasts a rugged bumper and muscular wheel arch cladding, enhancing its robust appearance. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, with an 18-inch option available for those seeking a more commanding presence. The rear design is highlighted by C-shaped tail lights and prominent Tasman branding, making it unmistakable on the road.

Interior & Tech

Inside, the Tasman impresses with a modern and feature-packed cabin. The dashboard sports a contemporary design with honeycomb-patterned AC vents and a large folding console for added convenience. A standout feature is the triple display setup, comprising a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a similar-sized digital driver's display, and a 5-inch display sandwiched between them for essential vehicle information.

Additionally, the Tasman is equipped with an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, dual wireless phone chargers, and level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including a unique ground view monitor that provides a view beneath the vehicle's front end.

Engine Specifications and Performance

Under the hood, the Kia Tasman offers a choice between a 2.5-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine delivers 281 PS of power and 421 Nm of torque, while the diesel variant produces 210 PS and 441 Nm. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth and responsive driving.

The petrol engine accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.5 seconds, whereas the diesel version takes 10.4 seconds. Depending on the market, the Tasman will be available with either engine option or both, catering to a wide range of preferences and needs.

Adventure-Ready Features and Off-Road Capability

The Tasman is designed to cater to both adventure seekers and business users. It offers a range of customizable chassis cab options and bed accessory configurations, including Single Decker, Double Decker, Sports Bar, and Ladder Rack.

This versatility allows owners to tailor the vehicle to their specific needs, whether for carrying equipment or embarking on off-road adventures. The Tasman is also fitted with practical features such as corner steps for easy bed access, a power outlet, and a sliding cargo floor for convenience.

For those who venture off the beaten path, the Tasman is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and a leaf spring suspension setup at the rear, enhancing its load-carrying capacity and off-road prowess. The air intake is strategically placed within the fender, allowing for a remarkable water wading depth of 800 mm. The higher-spec X-Pro variant boasts additional off-road features such as the X-Trek system and an electronic differential locking mechanism (e-LD), further enhancing its capability in challenging terrains.

Despite its array of features and global debut, Kia has not yet confirmed the Tasman's launch in the Indian market. The pickup truck is set to be released in Korea by the first half of 2025, with subsequent launches planned for Australia, Africa, and the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia. Should it arrive in India, the Tasman would compete with established models like the Toyota Hilux, introducing a new dynamic to the pickup truck segment.
