Kia Slovakia Achieves Milestone With Five Million Vehicles Produced
Kia Slovakia has reached a significant milestone, producing over five million vehicles at its plant near Žilina. The company, which has been operating in Slovakia for over 20 years, is one of the largest employers, manufacturers, exporters, and taxpayers in the region. The five millionth vehicle is a hybrid Sportage, marking the company's success through consistency and innovation.
Of the five million vehicles produced in Teplicka nad Vahom, Žilina, more than 2.5 million are Sportage models. These have been produced since the second generation. Ceed models follow closely, with over 2.1 million units produced. Marc Hedrich, President of Kia Europe, highlighted the company's growth in the European market during a local ceremony.
"We have tripled our share of the European car market in the last two decades thanks to the presence of our plant in Europe," Hedrich stated. He also praised the success of the Ceed and Sportage models, which have become best-sellers across Europe multiple times. Kia Slovakia currently produces nearly 1,500 Ceed and Sportage vehicles per day, which are transported to customers by train and truck.
In recent years, Kia Slovakia's main export markets have been Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, and Spain. The company continues to invest in new technologies to enhance production efficiency and employee safety while reducing environmental impact. These efforts aim to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
Established in 2013, Kia's foundation supports various projects in education, health, environment, and inclusion. The company employs approximately 3,800 people with an average retention rate of 11 years. Over 1,300 employees have worked for Kia Slovakia for more than 15 years, underscoring its role as a stable employer and strategic partner in the region.
Kia Slovakia is the only car producer in Slovakia with its own certified emission laboratory and engine production facility. This makes it a leader in innovation and sustainability within the European automotive industry. The workforce's expertise is complemented by state-of-the-art facilities that meet evolving customer needs.
The production team has significantly reduced Kia's ecological footprint per produced car over the last decade: electricity usage has decreased by 16 per cent, water usage by 35 per cent through recycling initiatives, and CO2 emissions by 19 per cent. Notably, the factory uses 100 per cent renewable energy for its operations.
Geon Won Shin, President and CEO of Kia Slovakia, expressed gratitude to employees, suppliers, and partners for their dedication: "Thanks to their hard work, we have managed to produce five million vehicles in Teplicka nad Vahom."
