Kia Seltos CNG Could Soon Become A Reality – India’s First Turbocharged CNG SUV?
Kia Seltos SUV single-handedly managed to put the Kia brand on the map with respect to Indian car buyers. Recently, Kia India also launched the new Seltos SUV in the country with added features and updated powertrain.
That being said, a fully camouflaged Kia Seltos CNG test mule was recently spotted testing by an avid automotive enthusiast. Since Kia India has already introduced the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and various new features on the new Seltos, we expect this test mule to sport the CNG-compatible powertrain.

This CNG-compatible powertrain is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit. If it hits production, this powertrain could potentially become the country's first turbocharged CNG engine. That being said, this powertrain could make its debut with the Kia Carens MPV as well.
Also, there is a high possibility that Kia could introduce its own version of the dual CNG tank. If so, this design, as already seen on Tata's latest CNG cars, could make the boot a lot more usable compared to CNG cars with one large CNG tank.

Moreover, with the rising demand for CNG cars in India, we expect Kia India to be more active in developing its CNG-compatible powertrain. As mentioned, this CNG-compatible powertrain could also be available on a range of products including Carens, Seltos, and Creta.
In terms of specifications, expect CNG mode to slightly dull the power and torque output of the 1.5-litre turbocharged powertrain. We also expect this powertrain to be offered with a 7-speed DCT gearbox alongside the standard 6-speed manual gearbox.

DriveSpark Thinks
If the 1.5-litre, turbocharged CNG-compatible turns out to be a success, we could expect these powertrains to be powering models such as Seltos, Carens, and even the Hyundai Creta as soon as next new year.
Also, the launch of Kia Seltos CNG will help Kia India further penetrate into the Indian market and boost its overall sales figures, especially in the tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India.
