Kia EV9 Honoured As World's Best Car By Women's Worldwide Jury
Three jury members from Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) travelled to Korea in July to present Kia with the World's Best Car award for 2024. The Kia EV9 won the supreme award, and the trophy was handed over at the Busan International Mobility Show. Shereen Shabnam from UAE, Nicole Wakelin from the USA, and Sandy Myhre from New Zealand presented the award to Mr Teckkoun Kim, Head of Kia Design Next Group.
Mr Kim expressed that winning this award is crucial for Kia's recognition. He stated, "It gives another twist to customers when juries like yours recognize the EV9 because you are the experts and you know which EV or vehicle works for the consumer experience." This accolade highlights the importance of expert validation in enhancing customer trust in their products.
The WWCOTY delegation also participated in interviews for Kia’s official social media channels, including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. These interviews will be featured in a promotional video collaboration with Bloomberg Media and displayed on their websites. Additionally, Michael Choo of Kia Brand Communications conducted an extensive television interview with the three jury members.
Sandy Myhre provided a brief history of WWCOTY during her interview. She discussed how many jury members there are today and emphasised the rigorous voting process. She noted that ultimately, the EV9 emerged as a clear winner for 2024. Shereen Shabnam highlighted various unique design aspects of the EV9, such as its lowered hipline for better vision and ‘star’ cluster headlights.
Nicole Wakelin focused on the wheel design of the EV9. She explained how its sporty spoke image creates an interesting geometric graphic on the wheel's surface. All three judges underscored the significance of this award and what it means for Kia customers globally.
About Women's Worldwide Car of the Year
Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year is unique as it is exclusively composed of women motoring journalists. Founded by New Zealand journalist Sandy Myhre in 2009, she serves as Honorary President while Marta García is Executive President. The award aims to recognise top cars annually and amplify women's voices in automotive journalism.
The voting criteria are based on universal principles that guide any driver when choosing a car. Jurors do not select a ‘woman’s car’ since cars are not gender-specific. Factors like safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits, and environmental impact are considered when casting votes.
Beyond selecting top cars each year, WWCOTY aims to increase visibility for women in automotive journalism worldwide. The goal is to ensure women's voices are heard across all continents because mobility provides access to numerous personal and professional opportunities.
The recognition from WWCOTY is expected to significantly impact Kia's market presence globally. It underscores their commitment to innovation and quality in electric vehicles like the EV9.
