Kia EV9 Electric SUV Spotted Testing In India: Launch Soon?
Following the debut of the EV6 in 2022, Kia is set to broaden its lineup of electric vehicles with the introduction of its flagship electric SUV, the EV9, which has been spotted on road tests in India for the first time.
Adopting the same CBU route as its predecessor, the EV9 is poised to make a grand entrance with an expected starting price of around Rs 80 lakh for the base model. This move signals Kia's commitment to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in the Indian market.

The EV9 is designed to command attention on the streets, thanks to its massive dimensions. Measuring over 5 meters in length and nearly 2 meters in width and height, its size alone sets it apart from other vehicles.
The wheelbase extends to over 3 meters, affording spacious interiors and ample cargo space. The SUV's design exudes boldness, with distinctive cube-shaped LED headlamps, Z-shaped Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), a sleek closed-off grille, and a pronounced bumper enhancing its visual appeal.
The side view reveals polygonal wheel arches, 21-inch alloy wheels, and substantial body cladding, along with practical roof rails and door-mounted side mirrors that integrate turn signals seamlessly. The rear is equally striking, featuring unique star map LED tail lamps and a cleverly concealed rear wiper under the spoiler for a clean, uncluttered look.
Inside, the EV9 doesn't skimp on luxury or technology. Occupants are treated to a three-zone climate control system, heated and ventilated seats in both the front and second rows, an automatic defogging system, and an electronic rearview mirror that doubles as a full display.
Comfort and convenience are further enhanced by a heated steering wheel, regenerative braking with paddle shifters, and a smart power tailgate that adjusts in height. Also, USB charging ports ensure that everyone stays connected and organized on the go.
The cabin's versatility is highlighted by the customizable seating arrangements, including 60:40 split remote folding second-row seats and 50:50 split third-row seats, both with headrests. The second row even features a swivel function, adding to the interior's adaptability.
Technology enthusiasts will appreciate the SUV's comprehensive suite of features, including a trio of screens: a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, another 12.3-inch display for the driver, and a 5.3-inch climate control screen.
Connectivity and security are covered with digital key access, fingerprint recognition, wireless integration for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, USB-C ports, a wireless phone charger, and over-the-air updates. A full suite of active and passive safety features, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), underscores Kia's commitment to safety.
Kia offers the EV9 in several powertrain configurations to cater to different preferences and requirements. The base rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model features a 76.1kWh battery powering a 215bhp electric motor, delivering a range of approximately 370km per charge.
For those seeking longer distances, the long-range variant boasts a 99.8kWh battery with a 201bhp motor, stretching the range to about 489km. Adventure-seekers might opt for the dual-motor setup, which pumps out 379bhp and achieves a range of roughly 450km.
Fast charging capabilities mean adding 248km of range in just 15 minutes, with a 10% to 80% charge achievable in 24 minutes. Additionally, its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature allows for the charging of tools and equipment, showcasing the SUV's utility beyond transportation.
With its impressive blend of size, luxury, technology, and performance, the Kia EV9 is set to redefine electric mobility in India. As Kia continues to push the boundaries with its electric vehicle offerings, the EV9 represents a significant leap forward in the automaker's quest to electrify Indian roads.
