Kia EV9 Electric SUV Teased: India Debut On October 3
Kia India has teased the upcoming launch of its EV9 electric SUV, set for October 3. The EV9 will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and will serve as Kia's flagship model in India, positioned above the EV6.
The EV9 first appeared in India as a concept at the Auto Expo 2023 before its global production reveal. Built on the E-GMP skateboard electric platform, it measures 5,010mm in length with a 3,100mm wheelbase and offers both 6- and 7-seater configurations.
EV9 Powertrain and Specifications
Internationally, the Kia EV9 comes with two battery options: a 76.1kWh unit and a larger 99.8kWh unit. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants feature a single motor with an EPA-estimated range of 370-489km. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) version, equipped with dual motors, offers a range of 435-451km per charge.
The single-motor RWD versions generate either 201hp or 215hp and deliver 350Nm of torque. In contrast, the AWD version produces up to 379hp and 700Nm of torque. The top-tier GT-Line variant can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 200kph.
Expected Price and Competitors
The EV9 is expected to be priced above Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom), making it competitive with luxury electric SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, BMW iX1, and Audi Q8 e-tron. Alongside the EV9 launch, Kia will also introduce the next-generation Carnival in India on October 3.
It remains uncertain whether both RWD and AWD versions will be available in India. However, given its specifications and features, the EV9 aims to offer a premium experience for Indian consumers looking for high-end electric vehicles.
