Kia's Luxury Lineup Expansion: EV9 SUV & Carnival MPV Launch Details
Kia is set to introduce its flagship SUV, the EV9, and the all-new Carnival MPV in India on October 3, 2024. Both models will be fully imported initially, with deliveries expected to start by Diwali. The Carnival MPV will be priced above Rs 50 lakh, while the EV9 be positioned as Kia's most expensive offering in India.
Kia Carnival: Features and Pricing
The upcoming Kia Carnival is a facelifted version of the KA4 showcased at the last Auto Expo. Initially, it will be fully imported, with local assembly planned for later stages. The starting price for this model in India is expected to be around Rs 50 lakh. At this price point, it will have no direct competitors; the Toyota Innova Hycross tops out at Rs 30 lakh, and the Toyota Vellfire starts at Rs 1.22 crore (ex-showroom).

The Carnival boasts a range of features including dual 12.3-inch displays, front and rear dash cameras, a head-up display, a digital rear-view mirror, an updated digital key with fingerprint recognition, and ambient lighting along the dashboard. It offers multiple seating configurations such as 7, 9, and 11-seater setups. However, it's not yet confirmed which configurations will be available in India.
Powertrain Options for Kia Carnival
In India, the Carnival is expected to come with a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Internationally, it also offers a 1.6-litre turbo petrol hybrid and a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine. These options provide versatility depending on market demands and regulations.
Kia EV9: Design and Powertrain
The EV9 electric SUV will be sold as a completely built unit (CBU) and is built on the e-GMP flexible skateboard platform that also underpins other Hyundai and Kia models like the Kia EV6 electric hatchback. The EV9 features a bold exterior design similar to other newer Kia models such as the EV3 and EV5.

Internationally, the EV9 comes with three powertrain options: two single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants and one all-wheel drive (AWD) variant with a dual-motor setup. This variety allows customers to choose based on their performance needs.
Pricing of Kia EV9
The EV9 is expected to have a price point similar to that of the BMW iX, placing it above Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom). This makes it one of the most premium offerings from Kia in India.
Kia dealers are preparing for deliveries of both models before Diwali, ensuring that customers can get their hands on these new vehicles during the festive season.
Kia continues to expand its presence in India with these new launches, aiming to cater to different segments of customers looking for premium features and advanced technology in their vehicles.
