Kia Clavis Spotted In India: Design And Launch Details

Kia India is gearing up to introduce the all-new Clavis in the Indian market. Recently, another test mule of this upcoming SUV was spotted on the Yamuna Expressway. The vehicle was heavily camouflaged, but it bore a striking resemblance to the Skoda Yeti, a model previously sold in India.

This sighting was captured in a video shared on Reddit. The clip shows the SUV, almost entirely covered in thick black material, being driven at a considerable speed. This suggests that Kia is nearing the final stages of development and may launch the Clavis soon.

Kia Clavis: Design Details

Despite the heavy camouflage, some design elements of the Clavis are visible. The SUV's design evokes memories of the Skoda Yeti, particularly in its pillar design. Both vehicles feature a thicker B-pillar and a hidden C-pillar, giving them a station wagon or premium MPV look without sliding doors.

The spy video also reveals pronounced silver roof rails and unique diamond-cut alloy wheels on the Clavis. The overall shape appears boxy, and although the rear remains hidden, it is expected to feature vertically positioned LED taillights.

The front of the Clavis showcases vertically stacked LED headlights positioned on the bumper and vertically aligned LED DRLs. Additionally, large air dams are visible in the middle section of the bumper.

Kia Clavis: Interior

The interior of the Clavis hints at modern amenities and advanced technology. A dual-connected screen setup is expected, likely featuring two 10.25-inch displays—one for infotainment and one as a digital driver's display.

Other anticipated features include dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, ventilated seats, and a Bose audio system. Previous spy shots have also indicated that the Clavis will come equipped with a 360-degree camera and 12 parking sensors (six on each end).

Powertrain and Positioning

Kia plans to offer both ICE and EV powertrain options for the Clavis. While details about its EV drivetrain remain scarce, it could offer an impressive range between 350 km to 400 km. For its ICE variant, it might share its engine with the Sonet—a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque.

Transmission options could include a 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) and a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). Kia aims to position the Clavis between its Seltos and Sonet models in India, creating a new segment that might compete with rivals like Citroen Basalt and Tata Curvv.

The latest sighting of Kia Clavis on public roads indicates that its launch is imminent. With its unique design elements reminiscent of Skoda Yeti and modern features, it promises to be an interesting addition to Kia's lineup in India.
