Kia Carnival MPV Surges In Popularity With Over 3,000 Bookings In India
The Carnival MPV by Kia has made a significant splash in the Indian market, securing over 3,000 bookings since its introduction less than three weeks ago. This impressive demand comes despite the model's premium starting price of Rs 63.9 lakh (ex-showroom).
Kia India has already begun phased deliveries to customers, highlighting the vehicle's immediate appeal. The high interest level in the Carnival is noteworthy, especially considering it is positioned in a unique segment with no direct competitors, bridging the gap between the Toyota Innova Hycross and the Toyota Vellfire.

Kia India has noted an unexpectedly strong consumer response to the Carnival, surpassing the sales of its predecessor. In 2022, the previous generation Carnival saw about 3,500 units sold, a figure that this new iteration is quickly approaching within its first few weeks on the market.
This surge in demand is particularly surprising given the new model's significantly higher price point compared to the outgoing version. The Carnival MPV's assembly happens at Kia's Ananthapur plant in AP, where semi-knocked down (SKD) kits are used for production. Currently, the facility has the capacity to assemble approximately 300 units per month.

Kia India Responds to Growing Demand
In light of the overwhelming interest, Kia India is exploring ways to ramp up production. "Going by the bookings for the Carnival, which has not seen any cancellations even after the price announcement, we are now looking to increase production of the MPV and have requested the headquarters for more kits," stated Hardeep S. Brar, the sales and marketing head at Kia Motors India. This move aims to reduce the waiting period, which is nearing a year due to the vehicle's popularity.
The Kia Carnival's unique market position is further solidified by its variant strategy. Kia offers the Carnival in a single, fully-equipped variant, simplifying the buying process. This strategy mirrors consumer preferences observed with the previous model, where nearly 90% of sales were attributed to the top-end variant.
The new Kia Carnival maintains this simplicity, offering only two exterior paint shades and a single seven-seat configuration. This approach reflects Kia India's initial expectations of the Carnival as a low-volume MPV, emphasizing quality and exclusivity over a wide range of options.

Exclusive Features and Market Positioning
The Carnival's exclusivity is highlighted by its distinctive positioning in the Indian automobile market. With a starting price of Rs 63.9 lakh, the Carnival finds itself uniquely placed between models like the more affordable Toyota Innova Hycross and the pricier Toyota Vellfire. This strategic pricing and positioning allow the Carnival to cater to a niche market segment looking for luxury and space without venturing into the higher price range of the Vellfire.
