2024 Kia Carens Secures 3-Star Adult & 5-Star Child Safety Ratings – Detailed Look

The Kia Carens, a popular choice among families for its practicality, has recently undergone safety tests by Global NCAP, revealing its performance in protecting occupants during crashes. The 2024 model of the Kia Carens has achieved a 3-star rating for adult safety and a commendable 5-star rating for child safety.

Adult Safety Performance

In the adult safety protection category, the Kia Carens scored 22.07 out of a possible 34.00. The vehicle provided good protection to the driver's and passenger's heads in frontal impacts, although the driver's neck protection was rated as weaker compared to the passenger's, which received a favourable rating.

While the driver's chest protection was adequate, the passenger's chest protection was good. Concerns were raised about marginal knee protection due to potential contact with hazardous structures.

Tibial protection varied from good to adequate, and minimal deformation was observed in the footwell area. However, the asymmetry between the driver's and passenger's sides and an unstable bodyshell that could not withstand further loadings were points of concern. The car showed good protection for the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis during side impacts.

Notably, the Kia Carens comes with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as a standard feature, aligning with Global NCAP requirements. Yet, the Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) system, which is essential for front and second-row seats, only meets the standard for the front row, impacting the overall adult occupant protection rating.

Child Safety Highlights

For child safety protection, the Kia Carens impressively scored 41.11 out of 49.00, earning a 5-star safety rating. Frontal impact tests showed that the child seats for both the 3-year-old and the 18-month-old were rearward-facing with i-size anchorages and support legs, offering full protection without head exposure. The Child Restraint Systems (CRS) also provided full side impact protection.

Additionally, the Kia Carens ensures all seating positions are equipped with 3-point belts as a standard feature. While there were some issues with the disconnection of the passenger airbag for rearward-facing CRS in the front passenger seat, the car does offer warnings about the risks.

DriveSpark Thinks

The results from Global NCAP highlight areas where the Kia Carens excels in safety, particularly for child occupants, as well as areas where improvements can be made to elevate adult occupant protection. As safety standards continue to advance, manufacturers like Kia are tasked with updating their vehicles' safety features to safeguard all occupants effectively.
