Kia America Introduces High-Performance EV9 GT SUV At The 2024 LA Auto Show
Kia America has introduced the 2026 Kia EV9 GT SUV at the LA Auto Show. This high-performance model features dual electric motors, delivering an estimated 501 horsepower. The SUV is designed to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 4.3 seconds, making it the most powerful three-row SUV produced by Kia. It includes an electronically controlled suspension, a first for Kia SUVs, which adjusts shock damping based on drive mode.
The EV9 GT stands out with its unique design elements both inside and outside. It is equipped with 285/45R-21 high-performance Continental tyres on exclusive 21-inch alloy wheels. The neon green calipers, first seen on the EV6 GT, add a distinctive touch. Inside, the vehicle features sport seats with Alcantara suede inserts and bright green accents throughout.
The SUV's performance is enhanced by a driver-selectable Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS). This system allows drivers to choose from Normal, Eco, Sport, and My Drive modes via a button on the steering wheel. Each mode optimises shock damping, steering, and brake feel to suit different driving conditions or preferences.
The EV9 GT includes advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as standard. These features include Parking Collision Avoidance Assist for front, side, and rear areas. This system warns of potential collisions with pedestrians or objects during parking and can apply emergency braking if necessary.
Additional ADAS features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Car, Cyclist, and Pedestrian Detection. Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve applies brakes to maintain speed through turns when active. Other conveniences include Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot View Monitor.
Charging Capabilities
The EV9 GT maintains the standard 800-volt fast charging architecture found across the EV9 lineup. This allows charging from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes using DC fast chargers. Starting in early 2025, all EV9 models will feature the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port for access to around 35,000 DC fast chargers in the U.S.
Inside the cabin, passengers can enjoy unique ambient lighting schemes exclusive to the GT model. The vehicle also comes with over-the-air update technology via the Kia Connect app. This allows new lighting patterns and content to be downloaded as they become available.
Driving Experience
The EV9 GT includes a Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system that simulates traditional automatic transmission shifts during acceleration. Drivers can manually shift through gears using paddles on either side of the steering wheel for an engaging driving experience.
An electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) enhances cornering stability by limiting wheelspin on tyres with less grip. Torque is directed to tyres with more traction to maintain stability while navigating corners.
