Kia America Achieves Record-Breaking Sales For All-Electric And Plug-In Hybrid Models In September 2024
Kia America reported a strong performance in September, selling 58,913 units. This was driven by record sales of their electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. Despite fewer selling days than last year, EV sales rose by 43% and PHEV sales increased by 11%. The Sportage, Forte, Carnival, and Seltos models also achieved their best-ever year-to-date sales for September.
In September, Kia's SUV sales saw an increase compared to the same period last year. These vehicles made up 74% of the monthly total. Meanwhile, electrified models accounted for 17% of the total sales volume. Eric Watson, Kia America's vice president of sales operations, noted that despite a general slowdown in the growth of all-electric models across the industry, Kia's electrified offerings continued to perform well.
Kia America is introducing North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its EV6 and EV9 models. Customers who purchase a new 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or a 2024 Kia EV6 after September 4, 2024, will receive an adapter at no cost. This will grant them access to over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers in the U.S., with deliveries expected in early 2025.
For those who acquired their vehicles before September 4, 2024, adapters will be available for purchase from authorized dealers later on. Access to these fast chargers is scheduled to begin on January 15, 2025.
Awards and Recognition
The all-electric 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line has been honoured as one of the Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems winners for 2024. This award evaluates new or significantly improved engines and propulsion systems. The EV9 had previously won a Wards award for Best Interiors & UX earlier this year.
Environmental Efforts
Kia Corporation has partnered with The Ocean Cleanup to combat ocean plastic pollution. Since their collaboration began in 2022, they have removed over one million pounds of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This area is known as the largest accumulation of floating waste globally.
