Kia America Introduces North American Charging Standard Adapters For EV Customers In Early 2025

Kia America is set to provide North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its EV6 and EV9 models. Customers purchasing a 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or a 2024 Kia EV6 from September 4, 2024, onwards will receive these adapters at no extra cost. This initiative will enable access to over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers across the U.S. by January 2025.

Eric Watson, VP of Sales Operations at Kia America, stated, "As a leader in electrified mobility, it’s important Kia provide our EV customers the best ownership experience possible, and offering NACS adapters is a great way to open up a vast number of charge points across North America, expanding Kia-accessible DC charge points by more than 83 percent."

Kia to Launch NACS Adapters for EVs in 2025

Owners of the EV6 RWD Light Long Range can travel an estimated 310 miles on a full charge according to EPA estimates. With the expanded charging network, owners can confidently reach distant destinations using electricity alone. The availability of three types of NACS adapters will further enhance this convenience.

The three adapter types include NACS to CCS1, CCS1 to NACS, and J1772 to NACS. The NACS to CCS1 adapter allows existing Kia EVs to use DC fast chargers. Meanwhile, the CCS1 coupler to NACS port enables charging on existing CCS DC chargers for NACS-equipped vehicles. The J1772 to NACS adapter facilitates AC charging on Level 2 chargers.

In early 2025, Kia plans to introduce features that allow owners to pay for charging through the Kia Access app after a vehicle software update. This app will help locate available charge points via infotainment screens and smartphones, providing details like charger status and pricing.

Kia America is headquartered in Irvine, California and continues to excel in automotive quality surveys. Recognised as one of TIME's World's Most Sustainable Companies in 2024, Kia offers various gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles through over 775 dealers in the U.S., with several models assembled domestically.

Availability and Purchase Options

Customers who acquired their EV6, EV9 or Niro EV before September 4, 2024 can purchase an adapter from authorised dealers later. Access to DC fast chargers is expected by January 15, 2025. This move aims to enhance the ownership experience by significantly increasing accessible charging points.

Kia Connect features may vary based on model year and trim level. A complimentary three-year subscription is included with certain new purchases or leases starting from the retail sale date as recorded by dealers. Subscription terms are subject to change.

This initiative underscores Kia's commitment to improving electric vehicle infrastructure and customer satisfaction by expanding charging options across North America.
