Kenwood Introduces New Compact DRV Dashcams For Enhanced Vehicle Security
Kenwood has introduced a new line of compact dash cameras, enhancing picture quality with advanced components. These cameras are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and are available in resolutions from 1080P to full 4K. They also record sound along with video.
The new DRV range includes a waterproof rear camera, ideal for vehicles with limited rear vision. This feature benefits commercial vehicles, motorhomes, convertibles, and cars with heavily tinted windows. The rear camera can be mounted externally on the number plate trim, bumper recess, or inside the rear windscreen.
Kenwood's latest dashcams come equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for easy smartphone pairing via the Kenwood app. This allows for quick connections and live software updates. The cameras also feature a 60-second timer to prevent video interruptions caused by stop/start systems.
The waterproof rear camera is IP67 rated and comes with a 5.5m cable, making it suitable for larger vehicles. It records in full 2560x1440 resolution and offers Enhanced Smart Parking Surveillance when used with an optional hardwire kit. This system can film continuously on a time lapse or trigger recording upon detecting vibrations or motion.
Despite their small size, these dashcams include a full 2-inch colour TFT screen for easy menu navigation and instant camera operation checks. The dimensions are comparable to a wireless earbud case at 58.5mm x 42.8mm x 24.4mm, allowing them to be discreetly hidden behind a rear-view mirror.
Special attention has been given to the size of cables and connectors to ensure neat and discreet wiring, providing an original factory look to installations. This makes the setup aesthetically pleasing while maintaining functionality.
Security and Compatibility
The Enhanced Smart Parking Surveillance feature offers three modes: continuous time-lapse filming, vibration-triggered recording, or motion detection recording. It automatically records 30 seconds of video until no more vibrations or motions are detected, providing added security for van drivers by covering their back doors.
The hardwire kit not only looks neater but also features a 60-second timer to ensure uninterrupted video recording despite modern stop/start systems. Additionally, it senses if the car’s battery is low on charge and turns off automatically to prevent battery drain.
Volkswagen UK has already approved this new range for use with their electric vehicle lineup, highlighting its compatibility with EVs and hybrids.
"The new DRV range is priced from £119.99 and is available now from Kenwoodshop.co.uk and from many automotive brands’ main dealerships."
