John Elkann Engages With Maserati Team At Historic Headquarters In Modena
John Elkann, Chairman of Stellantis, recently visited Maserati's historic headquarters in Modena, Italy. This visit was part of his global tour of Stellantis sites. After returning from Auburn Hills in the United States, Elkann met with Maserati CEO Santo Ficili and the leadership team at the Viale Ciro Menotti plant. He also interacted with the newly formed engineering team and other colleagues.
Maserati has a rich history spanning 110 years, with its base in Modena serving as the core of its operations. The brand is renowned for its focus on performance, innovation, and design. All current and future models are designed and produced in Italy, primarily at the Modena plant. This facility is key to producing Maserati's super sports cars like the MC20 coupe and convertible.
The leadership team at Viale Ciro Menotti collaborates closely with a group of around 130 experts. These engineers and technicians work on developing current and future models alongside the Engine Lab. Their efforts aim to elevate Maserati's position within the luxury segment through continuous innovation.
Elkann acknowledged the industry's challenges but expressed optimism about turning them into opportunities. "Our industry is going through hard times," he said. "Together, we have faced many challenges in the past and have already turned them into opportunities for the benefit of everyone who works with us."
Maserati produces a diverse range of unique cars known for their distinctive character. These vehicles cater to discerning tastes worldwide, setting benchmarks in design, performance, comfort, elegance, and safety across over 70 markets. The lineup includes models like the Grecale SUV and GranTurismo grand tourer.
Santo Ficili expressed his pleasure at Elkann's visit: "I’m delighted to welcome John Elkann to Modena." He highlighted Maserati's long-standing presence in Motor Valley and its vision of Italian luxury globally. The brand recently celebrated its centenary while looking forward with renewed energy.
Commitment to Electric Future
Maserati is committed to electrification, offering hybrid powertrains for models like Grecale alongside traditional V6 petrol engines. The MC20 sports car features a Nettuno V6 engine incorporating F1 technologies into standard production cars for the first time.
The GranTurismo offers both a high-performance V6 petrol engine derived from Nettuno and an all-electric version called GranTurismo Folgore—the first electric car in Maserati’s history. By 2025, all Maserati models will have full-electric versions; by 2028, they will be entirely electric.
The full-electric range now includes Grecale Folgore—Maserati’s first electric SUV—and GranCabrio Folgore as its latest addition. This transition underscores Maserati’s dedication to sustainable mobility while maintaining its performance DNA.
