Jenson Button Brings Historic Racing Passion To Rolex Monterey With Jaguar C-Type
The competitive spirit of world-class athletes never fades. Jenson Button, the 2009 FIA Formula One World Champion, is set to return to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion from August 14-17. He will race his 1952 Jaguar C-Type, a car once owned by six-time World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio.
Button expressed his excitement about participating in the event. "I love racing, it doesn't matter in what form," he said. "I've raced everything from F1 cars to Trophy trucks in the desert. What I love about historic racing is how mechanical the cars are, you feel at one with it, and you have to treat it with respect. I’ve only raced my C-Type at Goodwood so far so I can’t wait to add Laguna Seca to that short list of historic race tracks."

Button's enthusiasm for historic racing is evident. He added, "The Rolex Reunion is such a special event celebrating beautiful machinery and catching up with good friends. I look forward to it." His participation adds a unique element to the event, according to John Narigi, president of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
"Mr. Button visited last year to enjoy the racing, and we are very excited to see him hustle his storied Jaguar C-Type around the track and down the Corkscrew. Our guests will enjoy meeting the World Champion," Narigi stated.
Jenson Button's Formula 1® career spanned from his debut at the 2000 Australian Grand Prix to his final race at the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix. During this period, he achieved 15 Grand Prix victories and 50 podium finishes, culminating in winning the World Drivers’ Championship in 2009.
In recent years, Button has shifted his focus to endurance and classic races. In 2023, he participated in three NASCAR events and competed in the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a NASCAR entry.
A Historic Vehicle
The Jaguar C-Type that Button will be driving has a rich history. Originally sold to Juan Manuel Fangio in 1952, this vehicle (known by its chassis number XKC 018) was later sold to Jose Millet in Argentina. Millet extensively campaigned the car throughout South America during the 1950s.
This year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will feature over 400 historic and period-correct race cars competing across 13 classes. The event also marks the 50th anniversary of historic racing in Monterey and will include an impressive anniversary display showcasing past featured marques.
