2025 Jeep Wrangler Welcomes Back Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission For V-6 Models
The Jeep community's feedback has led to the return of the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission for the 2025 Jeep Wrangler. This option is available with the 3.6-liter V-6 engine in the four-door model. The decision highlights Jeep's commitment to offering diverse powertrain choices, including a standard six-speed manual transmission.
Jeep's dedication to versatility is evident in the 2025 Wrangler's powertrain options. These include a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a powerful 6.4-liter V-8 HEMI engine delivering 470 horsepower. Additionally, there's a class-exclusive plug-in hybrid 4xe variant.
The 2025 Wrangler models come equipped with the reliable Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine, producing 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, except for the Sahara model. The TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission is offered as a $4,500 option.
Bob Broderdorf, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America, stated, "In response to enthusiastic requests, we're reintroducing the eight-speed automatic transmission for V6 Wrangler models, underscoring our commitment to freedom of choice, performance, and versatility for every adventure." He emphasized their appreciation for community input.
The TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission is designed for smooth operation and efficiency. It integrates seamlessly with Wrangler’s advanced 4x4 systems: Command-Trac, Rock-Trac (both part-time and full-time), and Selec-Trac. This setup ensures optimal performance across various terrains.
The Wrangler's additional powertrains include a turbocharged I-4 engine that generates 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The returning Wrangler 392 stands out as the fastest and most powerful model yet, featuring a robust V-8 engine that delivers impressive power figures.
Electrification Initiative
Jeep's electrification initiative is transforming its lineup by introducing electrified variants across all models in North America by 2025. This includes the innovative 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a turbocharged gas engine with two electric motors.
This hybrid system offers an impressive fuel economy of 49 MPGe and provides up to 21 miles of all-electric range without any range anxiety. It represents Jeep's commitment to sustainable driving solutions while maintaining legendary off-road capabilities.
