Jeep Drivers Top DIY Car Maintenance In The UK, Reveals EBay Research
eBay's recent study highlights that Jeep owners in the UK are the most proactive when it comes to car maintenance. They are followed closely by Chevrolet and Peugeot owners, who also show a strong inclination towards DIY repairs.
The research indicates that Jeep drivers are 81 times more likely to perform their own car maintenance compared to the average car owner. Chevrolet owners follow with a likelihood of 62 times, and Peugeot owners are 47 times more inclined to handle their own repairs.
Other brands with high DIY maintenance tendencies include MINI, Vauxhall, SEAT, Škoda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, and Fiat. This trend suggests a growing interest among UK motorists in taking charge of their vehicle upkeep.
From January to June this year, the most purchased Jeep part on eBay was a replacement battery. This was followed by door edge protector strips and outside under door mirror air temperature sensors for the Jeep Renegade.
eBay offers millions of new, pre-owned, and Certified Recycled parts. Certified Recycled parts can be up to 70% cheaper than OEM parts RRP. These parts are vetted, warrantied, and sourced from approved end-of-life vehicles, providing peace of mind for buyers.
Ease of Finding Parts
The "My Garage" search function on eBay simplifies finding the right parts for vehicles. Users can enter their registration number to locate compatible parts easily. This feature is available on the desktop version of the site.
Official Brand Stores
eBay hosts official brand stores for several major car manufacturers including BMW, Ford, Lexus, MINI, Suzuki, and Toyota. Additionally, classic brands like Jaguar Classic and Land Rover Classic have their stores on the platform.
Labour Costs and DIY Benefits
Abir Tewari, UK Director Commercial Operations Parts & Accessories at eBay stated: "With average garage labour rates in the UK now exceeding £75 per hour, taking on your own car maintenance is a practical way to cut running costs. Our findings show that Jeep drivers are particularly hands-on – they’re nearly twice as likely to perform their own maintenance compared to the average car owner."
Tesla Owners Least Likely for DIY
On the other hand, Tesla drivers are the least likely to engage in DIY car maintenance. They are 79 times less likely than the average UK car owner to handle repairs themselves.
Research Methodology
The study utilised data from GlobalWebIndex (GWI) to assess car owners' attitudes towards DIY car maintenance. New car owners were excluded from this research as they tend to use professional services to maintain vehicle warranties requiring routine maintenance by VAT-registered garages.
