Jeep Compass Gets More Powerful 268.3bhp Turbo Petrol Engine – Check Out All The Details Here
Jeep has introduced a new 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine to its Compass model, making waves in international markets. This engine boasts an impressive 268.3bhp and 400Nm of torque, positioning it as the most powerful option within the Compass range.
It's noteworthy that this same engine also powers the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs in India and will be featured in the Jeep Commander abroad, known as the Meridian SUV locally.

Originating from FCA's Global Medium Engine (GME) family, the engine is not entirely new but has proven its worth across different models, including some from Alfa Romeo and Maserati in varied tunes.
Enhanced with direct injection and a dual VVT setup, the Compass achieves a 0-100kph sprint in just 6.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 228km/h. It is paired with a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission and comes with full-time 4WD, along with Mud and Sand modes for enhanced off-road capability.

However, for those in India awaiting the arrival of a petrol-powered Compass, the immediate future might look a bit different. Jeep India plans to reintroduce the Compass with a petrol engine, albeit with a smaller 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit, expected to deliver around 183bhp.
This engine is anticipated to arrive by 2025, alongside its implementation in the Jeep Meridian. Before this, a facelift for the Meridian is slated to launch in India this year, which is likely to boost the sales of the model in India.

The addition of the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine to the Jeep Compass lineup marks a significant step for Jeep, as it shares this engine across several high-profile models, including the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Its introduction initially in South America hints at Jeep's strategy for varied markets.
