Jeep Avenger 4xe: This Hybrid Off-Road Worthy SUV Makes Lot Of Sense For India

Jeep recently unveiled a new addition to its SUV lineup, the Avenger 4xe. The Avenger 4xe stands out as the top variant within the small SUV range, boasting an all-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain. This model joins the existing petrol and electric variants of the Avenger.

The Avenger 4xe pairs a 134bhp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with two 27.5bhp electric motors, one on each axle, coupled with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This setup, complemented by a 48V hybrid system, promises to deliver substantial traction and torque.

Thanks to the additional torque and improved traction, the Jeep Avenger 4xe promises better off-road performance. Furthermore, the added traction of the all-wheel-drive system ensures 100km/h sprint is disposed in 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 194km/h.

Significantly, the Avenger 4xe features an innovative power distribution mechanism. At speeds below 30km/h, power is sent to all wheels; between 30km/h and 90km/h, it shifts to the rear axle as needed, and at higher speeds, it operates in two-wheel drive to reduce fuel consumption.

The SUV incorporates Jeep's Selec-Terrain system, offering Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud, and Sport modes, each adjusting the power distribution and stability control accordingly. The model's off-roading capability is further highlighted by a 22.7:1 reducer on the rear axle, enabling up to 1,900Nm of wheel torque.

This allows the Avenger 4xe to tackle gravel slopes with a 40 percent gradient and ascend a 20 percent gradient slope even when the front lacks grip. The vehicle's ground clearance is 210mm, 10mm higher than the regular Avenger, enabling it to ford water up to 400mm deep.

Design & Interior Updates

The Avenger 4xe also introduces design modifications for improved functionality and aesthetics. Adjustments include higher-placed fog lights for better visibility, roof rails, and a rear tow hook.

The front and rear bumpers are made from a mould-in-colour material with an anti-scratch finish, showcasing more of the wheels and additional cladding. Optional enhancements like a bonnet sticker to reduce sun reflections and standard mud and snow tyres— with All Terrain 3PMSF tyres as an option.

Inside, the vehicle sports new seats made from washable material and utilizes more durable materials throughout the cabin to extend its lifespan. These upgrades aim to provide a comfortable yet resilient interior for off-road enthusiasts.

Set to hit the UK market later this year, the Jeep Avenger 4xe's pricing details are yet to be announced. As for its availability in India, Jeep previously considered the Avenger as a potential Compact SUV for the Indian market.

However, updates on this front have been scarce. Currently, Jeep's focus in India includes the recently launched facelifted Wrangler and a 2WD automatic Compass, with plans to introduce a refreshed Jeep Meridian featuring styling updates and additional features later in the year.

The introduction of the Jeep Avenger 4xe marks an exciting development for off-road driving enthusiasts, offering a hybrid option that does not compromise on performance or capability. That being said, the launch of Jeep Avenger 4xe will help the automaker significantly boost its sales in the country.
