Jaguar Type 00 Unveiled – Production Version To Be A 4-Door Model
Jaguar has taken a giant leap into the future with the introduction of the Type 00 concept car. This new venture marks a pivotal turn in the company's design ethos, showcasing a flamboyant style that departs from its customary sophistication.
The Type 00, aptly named to highlight its zero emissions, is a precursor to a 4-door GT model slated for production by the end of next year. This shift towards a bolder aesthetic is Jaguar's strategy to appeal to consumers drawn to striking designs.
Design
The prototype stands out with its unconventional features, such as a pronounced, upright nose and an elongated bonnet that challenges the EV norm of aerodynamic shapes. Its design is further accentuated by oversized wheels, expanded wheel arches, and vibrant pastel hues reminiscent of Miami Art Deco. Such elements, alongside the revamped Jaguar logo and brand motifs adorning the grille and wheel caps, herald a new era for the marque.
Interior
The concept's interior is equally innovative, boasting a minimalistic design split by a central brass division that forms two distinct dashboards and seating zones. The upholstery, a stitch-free wool blend, and seats appear suspended, attached only to the travertine stone center console.
This minimalist theme extends to storage and screens, ingeniously integrated to maintain simplicity. The cabin's ambiance is infused with an Art Deco flair, featuring bright colors and distinct strikethrough patterns that enhance the interior's aesthetic appeal.
4-Door GT
Despite the Type 00 being a 2-door concept, Jaguar plans to bring a 4-door GT to the market while preserving the grand touring proportions that define the concept. Among its novel features is a powered hatch on the car's front left fender, housing "prism case" totems. These not only establish the car's motif but also indicate potential personalized drive modes or keys for the forthcoming model.
Unique to this design is the absence of traditional tail-lights, replaced by a striking strikethrough pattern that cleverly conceals the lighting elements. Additionally, a fixed glass roof adorned with the same pattern enriches the interior with captivating light and shadow effects.
New Electric Architecture
Significantly, the upcoming production vehicle will be built on Jaguar's new Electric Architecture (JEA), aiming for a 770km range per the WLTP cycle, coupled with fast charging capability. This cutting-edge platform, however, will be exclusive to vehicles manufactured in the UK, with Tata Motors not slated to adopt it for their lineup.
The launch of this groundbreaking 4-door GT is anticipated at the end of 2025, initially targeting markets in the UK and the US. Indian customers can expect its arrival by late 2026 or early 2027. While pricing details remain under wraps, this model is set to elevate Jaguar's position in the luxury car segment, moving away from its previous "mass premium" market category.
