Jaguar I-Pace Discontinued In India Amid EV Strategy Overhaul

Jaguar India has removed the I-Pace from its website, indicating it is no longer accepting orders for the electric SUV. The company has also delisted the F-Type sportscar, which ceased production globally last month. This leaves Jaguar with only one model in India—the F-Pace SUV.

Jaguar's Electric Vehicle Journey

The I-Pace was Jaguar's first and only electric vehicle (EV) in India. Launched in 2021, it was the second luxury electric SUV priced around Rs 1 crore, setting a new trend in the segment.

Despite its initial promise, the I-Pace did not receive any updates during its three-year tenure in India, unlike its competitors such as the Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC.

In FY2024, Jaguar sold just 31 units of the I-Pace, significantly trailing behind rivals like the BMW iX, which sold 738 units. The I-Pace featured a 90kWh battery pack and dual electric motors producing 400hp and 696Nm of torque. In real-world tests combining city and highway driving conditions, it achieved a range of about 410km.

Performance and Features

Apart from its striking design, the I-Pace was known for being one of the most enjoyable luxury EVs to drive. However, it fell short in terms of space, practicality, and comfort compared to its rivals. Additionally, many basic features were optional extras despite its high price tag.

The F-Type sportscar was introduced in India in July 2013 as a convertible with V6 and V8 engines. A coupe version followed almost a year later, and a more affordable 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine was added in 2018. The model received a mid-life facelift in 2020.

Future Plans for Jaguar

Although the I-Pace continues to be available in international markets, it will soon be phased out before Jaguar introduces its next wave of EVs globally starting from 2025. This move aligns with Jaguar's broader strategy to transition towards an all-electric future.

The discontinuation of both the I-Pace and F-Type marks a significant shift for Jaguar in India as it prepares for this new phase. The brand's focus will now be on introducing new electric models that align with global trends and consumer demands.

Jaguar India Axes I-Pace In EV Shift 4

The upcoming wave of Jaguar EVs is expected to bring advanced technology and improved performance to compete more effectively in the luxury EV market. These new models will likely address some of the shortcomings observed in the I-Pace while building on its strengths.

This strategic pivot underscores Jaguar's commitment to innovation and sustainability as it navigates the evolving automotive landscape. By focusing on electric vehicles, Jaguar aims to meet stringent environmental standards and cater to a growing market segment seeking eco-friendly transportation options.

As Jaguar transitions towards an all-electric lineup by 2025, enthusiasts can look forward to a range of new models that promise enhanced driving experiences and cutting-edge technology.
