Isuzu D-Max Electric Prototype Unveiled – Targets 2025 European Launch Eyes 2025 Europe Production

Isuzu recently unveiled its groundbreaking venture into the electric vehicle sector with the electrified version of its D-Max pickup. The Isuzu D-Max Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) pre-production prototype is set to charm the public at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand on March 27.

Following its debut, the electric pickup is slated for production in Europe by 2025. This move aligns the brand with the growing shift towards sustainable transportation solutions. The electric variation of the D-Max is designed to meet both commercial and passenger vehicle needs.

It features a full-time 4WD system, propelled by newly developed e-axles on both the front and rear, ensuring it retains the tough performance expected of pickups. Notably, the Isuzu D-Max BEV will boast the same payload capacity as its diesel counterparts, highlighting Isuzu's commitment to efficiency and performance.

Under the hood, the D-Max electric prototype is equipped with a 66.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It draws power from two electric motors, positioned on each axle, delivering a combined output of 174bhp and 325Nm. Furthermore, the top speed is capped at 130km/h.

Although specific details on the driving range remain undisclosed, Isuzu assures a high towing capacity and a robust frame, ensuring the electric version parallels the diesel model's performance.

The redesign of the electric prototype incorporates a covered grille with blue accents, maintaining the traditional D-Max silhouette with the addition of new six-spoke alloy wheels and "EV Concept" badging on the loading bed. I

suzu has plans to introduce the D-Max electric in markets like Europe, the UK, Australia, Thailand, and other countries, contingent on market demand and the maturity of EV charging infrastructure.

In tandem with the electric prototype, Isuzu also showcased a D-Max prototype equipped with a 1.9-litre diesel mild-hybrid engine. This new Hi-Lander MHEV prototype features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system paired with a turbo diesel engine. Detailed specifications and production timelines for this model remain under wraps.

Competing globally with the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, which offer mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions depending on the market, the Isuzu D-Max Electric positions the brand at the forefront of the industry's shift towards more sustainable vehicle options.

However, the introduction of the D-Max BEV to the Indian market remains uncertain, as Isuzu India continues to offer the previous generation D-Max. The launch of the electric and diesel models in India could open new avenues for the brand in the growing Indian automobile market.
