JLR's India-Made Range Rover Sport Challenges Luxury SUV Market
Locally assembled Land Rover Range Rover Sport has become a major player in India's luxury car market. It competes with models like the Porsche Cayenne, Volvo XC90, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE. The competitive pricing of the India-made Range Rover Sport could boost JLR's sales in the luxury SUV segment.
Previously, the Range Rover Sport was imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) from JLR's Solihull plant in the UK, which resulted in high taxes. Now, Land Rover assembles the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport locally in India through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route at its Chakan facility in Pune.
