India Manufactured Maruti Suzuki Fronx To Be Launched In Japan: Strengthens Global Presence
The Maruti Fronx, manufactured in India, is set to debut in Japan by the end of August. This marks the second India-made car to be launched in Japan. The Gujarat plant of Suzuki has already dispatched the initial batch of these vehicles to Japan.
India serves as the global hub for the Fronx, catering to both right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) markets, alongside meeting substantial domestic demand since its launch in early FY24.

The Japanese version of the Fronx retains the same interior and exterior design as its Indian counterpart. However, it features a 1.5-litre petrol engine instead of the 1.2-litre and 1.0-litre turbo engines available in India.
This engine, also found in models like the Ertiga and Brezza in India, delivers 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. While Indian customers can choose between a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic, Japanese buyers will only have access to the six-speed automatic option.
Global Export Model
This specific 1.5-litre Fronx model is designated for global export and is available in regions such as the Gulf nations and South Africa. The Japanese market will also offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, unlike India where only front-wheel-drive (FWD) is available.
Suzuki's decision to export cars from India to Japan isn't new. The company began exporting the Baleno from India to Japan back in 2016. Given this precedent, it makes sense for the Fronx to follow suit after its global launch.
India's role as a manufacturing hub for Suzuki continues to grow with this latest development. The steady domestic demand for the Fronx since its introduction has bolstered India's position as a key player in Suzuki's global strategy.
The inclusion of a larger engine for the Japanese market highlights Suzuki's strategy to tailor its offerings based on regional preferences and regulations. This approach ensures that each market receives a product that meets local expectations while maintaining core design elements.
The launch of the Fronx in Japan underscores India's growing significance in Suzuki's global operations. By producing vehicles that meet international standards, India strengthens its reputation as a reliable manufacturing base for high-quality automobiles.
As Suzuki continues to expand its export portfolio from India, it reflects confidence in India's manufacturing capabilities and strategic importance within the company's global framework.
