India Car Exports For May 2024 Records Slight Increase, Volkswagen Virtus Tops
In May 2024, car exports from India increased slightly by 1.42% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 53,991 units. The Volkswagen Virtus led the export list with 4,185 units shipped. Following closely was the Honda Elevate SUV with 4,051 units.
The Hyundai Verna, which had topped the export list in April, fell to third place in May with 4,047 units exported. Among other notable exports, the Maruti Jimny experienced a remarkable year-on-year growth of 63,980%, while the VW Taigun saw an impressive increase of 1,244.72%.

Decline in Some Models
Despite the overall growth, some models saw a decline in exports. The Maruti Dzire and Baleno were among those that did not perform as well. Additionally, several passenger vehicles failed to surpass the 1,000 unit sales mark. These included the Carens, i20, Sonet, Ertiga, and Eeco.
The Mahindra XUV700 SUV recorded significant year-on-year growth of 667.95%, exporting 599 units in May. This substantial increase highlights the growing demand for this model in international markets.
