Hyundai Tucson Bags 5-Star Safety Rating Under Bharat NCAP
The Hyundai Tucson has achieved a commendable 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP, marking it as the first Hyundai model to undergo this testing. This evaluation highlights its impressive safety features for both adults and children. The Tucson joins other tested SUVs from Mahindra and Tata in showcasing robust safety standards.
Hyundai Tucson Adult Occupant Protection
In adult occupant protection, the Tucson scored 30.84 out of 32 points. This is the third highest score under BNCAP, following the Tata Punch EV and Mahindra Thar Roxx. The report highlighted good protection for the head and neck of both driver and passenger. However, protection for the driver's chest and feet was deemed adequate.

The Tucson excelled in various tests, securing 14.84 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. It achieved a perfect score of 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test, indicating excellent overall protection. In the side pole impact test, it received an 'OK' rating.
Hyundai Tucson Child Occupant Protection
For child occupant protection, the Tucson scored 41 out of 49 points. It earned full marks in both dynamic and CRS installation tests but got 5 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. Child dummies were tested using rearward-facing seats with ISOFIX anchors and a support leg.
Despite these results, Bharat NCAP's report lacks detailed insights into child dummy protection levels compared to Global NCAP reports. Nonetheless, these scores reflect strong safety measures for young passengers.
Additional Safety Features
The tested model was the top-spec Signature variant with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and automatic transmission. Standard features include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), three-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, and ISOFIX anchors for rear seats.
The Tucson also meets AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms and includes hill hold control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a rearview camera with parking sensors at both ends, and level-2 ADAS technology.
Market Availability
It's important to note that this rating applies to the Indian-made model intended for domestic sales only. The facelifted version available abroad is not covered by this assessment. Currently, prices range between Rs 29.02 lakh and Rs 35.94 lakh (ex-showroom).
Bharat NCAP did not specify if the body shell or footwell area remained stable under impact or could withstand further loadings during testing. Despite this omission, Hyundai's commitment to safety is evident through these results.
