Hyundai Santa Cruz Awarded Top Midsize Pickup In 2024 U.S. Initial Quality Study
The Hyundai Santa Cruz has been named the top Midsize Pickup in the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). Hyundai's overall performance also saw significant improvement, climbing seven ranks to secure third place among mass-market brands. The Hyundai Elantra and Tucson both finished third in their respective segments.
Omar Rivera, executive director of quality and service engineering at Hyundai Motor America, received the Best Midsize Pickup trophy for the Santa Cruz from Robert Mansfield, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power. Rivera stated, "This trophy underscores Hyundai’s commitment to delivering vehicles of the highest quality." He added that the Santa Cruz exemplifies meticulous attention to detail, advanced engineering, and rigorous quality control.

The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Initial Quality Study is based on responses from 99,144 purchasers and lessees of new 2024 model-year vehicles surveyed early in their ownership period. This study measures initial quality by counting problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership. A lower score indicates higher quality.
Conducted between July 2023 and May 2024, the study involved 227 Voice of the Customer (VOC) questions plus relevant repair data organized into ten categories: infotainment; features, control and displays; exterior; driving assistance; interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; climate; and unspecified (unique to repair). The study aims to help automakers identify issues and drive product improvement.
