Hyundai's Design Excellence Recognized With Multiple Red Dot Awards In 2024
Hyundai Motor Company has been honoured with multiple 2024 Red Dot Awards, reaffirming its global design leadership. The Hyundai SANTA FE XRT Concept won the Design Concept award in the Cars and Motorcycles category, while Hyundai’s DICE and SPACE innovations were recognised in the Autonomous category.
"It’s an incredible honour to be recognised by the Red Dot Award for our innovative design concepts," said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design. "This accolade really shows the amazing achievements and dedication of our talented designers. They’ve worked tirelessly on these projects, hand in hand with our engineers at the R&D centre. It also underscores the strong global competitiveness of Hyundai’s design identity."
The SANTA FE XRT Concept, which debuted alongside the SANTA FE in 2023, is tailored for outdoor enthusiasts. This rugged SUV can confidently handle challenging terrains. Designed to spark adventure, it features chunky off-road wheels, a roof-mounted luggage rack, and additional external storage.
Introduced at CES 2024, DICE (Digital Curated Experience) revolutionises autonomous mobility with personalised services. DICE offers sharing and subscription-based services that integrate seamlessly with users’ personal devices for a customised experience. It extends the concept of a ‘smartphone on the road’, enhancing user interaction through its gesture-controlled 3D ‘Ring Pad’.
DICE is powered by a green hydrogen-based fuel cell, contributing to cleaner cities by purifying the air as it operates. Its robotics technology includes the Plug and Drive (PnD) module, which allows flexible driving modes like diagonal driving and zero-turn capabilities for improved manoeuvrability. Hyundai envisions DICE’s integrated technologies as crucial for a safe and sustainable future in mobility.
Spatial Experiences for All
Also introduced at CES 2024, SPACE (Spatial Curated Experience) Mobility is a multi-seater public mobility system designed to provide unrestricted travel access to everyone, including those with mobility impairments. The interior features flexible space with an ‘Adaptive Seat’, while boarding height control ensures easy access for wheelchair users, making it ideal for last-mile mobility solutions.
The SPACE Pavilion extension repurposes decommissioned SPACE modules into transportable hubs that enhance usability in disadvantaged areas. A hydrogen fuel cell energy system supports charging for portable batteries and powers smart farms and air-cleaning algae modules using water by-products.
